Libertango was originally written by Astor Piazzolla in 1974. The title ‘Libertango’ is a combination of two words ‘Libertad’ meaning liberty and ‘tango’ which is an Argentinian dance. This symbolises Piazolla’s break from Classical Tango to Tango Nuevo. Derivatives of this work appear on many other artists’ albums in jazz, pop and ballad style. This piece is full of rhythmical and decisive accompaniment with rubato style lyrical melody.

This arrangement for piano quartet was written because I needed to play it for a concert and couldn’t find a version that I liked. Click here for piano trio version.
